According to the HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways, the investor of the HCMC railway construction projects, it manages and builds the metro line No.1 from Ben Thanh Market to Suoi Tien theme park with a total length of 19.7km and 14 stations. The project is funded by Japan’s ODA and has completed about 84.44% of the total volume.
Metro train No.2 and No.3 out of a total of 17 trains manufactured for the metro route No.1 are imported from Japan to HCMC for trial operation at the depot and testing of 11 systems for operation such as electrical system, signal information system and train control monitoring system.
The first train arrived Khanh Hoi Port in October 8, 2020. The successful import and transport of the first three trains of Metro line No.1 play an important role in the project, marking the official transformation from the phase of construction and installation to the trial and operation phase.
The import, trial operation and official operation of the first three trains and import of remaining trains for the project show the great efforts in cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese engineers and experts to implement an important and pioneering transport project in the urban railway sector in Vietnam.

The train will conduct trial operation in phases such as the trial operation in the depot, from the depot to Binh Thai, from the depot to Tan Cang and operation of the whole line. Currently, the inspection and import of the remaining trains will be accelerated according to the implementation progress of the project.
The HCMC Management Authority for Urban Railways and contractors will continue to implement the project with the great effort and determination to meet the progress and plan; overcome work on the much-delayed line due to the Covid-19 pandemic while implementing Covid-19 prevention and control for about 3,000 engineers and workers.
Metro Line 1 has a total of 17 trains, including 51 carriages. Maximum design speed is 110km/h (elevated section), 80km/h (underground section), with a capacity of carrying 930 passengers. It is 19.7km long, starting from Ben Thanh (District 1) to Depot Long Binh, with a total investment of more than VND43,700 billion. The system has 14 stations, including three underground stations and 11 elevated stations.
